Economic analysis of organic greenhouse vegetable production in Bamenda town, Cameroon

This study is titled the economic analyses of greenhouse vegetable production in Bamenda town. The objectives targeted in the study are: to determine the productivity of organic greenhouse vegetable production, to determine the factors affecting organic greenhouse vegetable production and to determine the challenges affecting organic greenhouse vegetable production. A multiple linear regression was used to estimate the result while primary data was collected among 47 greenhouse farmers. The result shows that, high cost of installation, high cost of inputs, the prevalence of pest, diseases and fungi are the most pressing challenges faced by greenhouse farmers, also farm size, training in organic farming, educational level, family size, receiving the services of extension workers, external climate variations, access to credit, perception of profit levels, prices effect are factors influencing organic greenhouse vegetable production. The study recommended that the decision makers should create awareness on the economic benefit of greenhouse farming. This is a good step towards food security and improved farmers economic well-being.
