Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Research article

  • Should be written with the following elements in the following order: title page; Highlights; Graphical Illustration; Abstract; Keywords; main text introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (or Results and Discussion); acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references; appendices (As appropriate.); table(s) and figures should be cited in the text in front of its appropriate parties.  
  • Should be between 7 and 12 pages, inclusive of tables, figures, references.
  • Should contain a structured abstract of 250 words.
  • Should contain between 3 and 6 keywords.

Review

  • Should be written with the following elements in the following order: title page; introduction; main text; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references; appendices (as appropriate.); table(s) and figures should be cited in the text in front of its appropriate parties.  
  • Should be no more than 20 pages, inclusive of tables, figures, references, figure.

Short communication

  • Should be written with the following elements in the following order: title page; abstract; keywords; introduction; main text; experimental section (to be supplied as supplementary materials); results; discussion; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references; appendices (as appropriate.); table(s) and figures should be cited in the text in front of its appropriate parties.  
  • Should be between 4 and 5 pages, inclusive of tables, figures, references.
  • Should contain a structured abstract of 250 words.
  • Should contain between 3 and 6 keywords.

Letter

  • Should be written with the following elements in the following order: title page; main text; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references
  • Should be between one and two pages.
