Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the biometrics of the Argan seeds Argania spinosa (L.) Skeels according to the provenances: Tindouf, Adrar, Timimoun, Bechar and Mostaganem. Therefore, the quantitative variables: length, width, thickness, weight and the number of carpels and one qualitative variable namely colour were measured of 4017 Argan seeds. Principal component analysis reveals the existence of four distinct classes of seeds. The multi-factor ANOVA confirms the significant differences between the regions and highlights the inter-population and intra-population diversity. The planting and exploitation of this multifunctional tree in agriculture in Algeria has many advantages in different fields.
