Abstract

Water is life, its invariability is a challenge in many parts of the World. Inadequate water access hampers sanitation, impacting individual health causing water waterborne diseases threaten populations in both women and children. United Nations asserts clean water as a fundamental human right. The study made use of Integrated Remote Sensing (IRS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) methods to assess sources, distribution and potability of water in Ilere community, Akure South Local Government Area, Ondo State, Nigeria. The results show generally satisfactory portability levels, with pH within WHO-recommended range. However, specific locations exhibit slightly lower pH levels, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring. Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) generally meet WHO guidelines, but the sample for location 13 and 14 indicate area requiring focused attention due to higher TDS values, signaling potential contamination sources. Spatial variations in elements like bicarbonate and potassium necessitate referencing local guidelines.  Essential elements consistently meet WHO standards, indicating overall suitability for drinking water. Despite positive findings, the study emphasizes continuous monitoring, targeted interventions, and community engagement to ensure sustained water quality. The research contributes valuable insights for local authorities, policymakers, and community leaders, highlighting the importance of proactive measures to safeguard water quality and public health in Ilere and similar communities.
