The Effectiveness of Social Media Use in Enhancing Communicative Competence among Individuals with Hearing Impairments

Objective : This study aimed to investigate the role of social media in developing communicative competence among deaf and hard-of-hearing children, from the perspective of students at Al-Amal Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the city of Al-Zawiya.
Methodology : The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach, with a sample consisting of 70 male and female students enrolled at the center. A questionnaire was used as the primary tool for data collection, Statistical methods included the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, relative weight, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, split-half reliability, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient.
Results:The findings revealed that social media has a relatively positive effect on enhancing social interaction, developing expressive and visual communication skills, and supporting the use of sign language-provided that it is used within clear guidelines and specific time limits, and as a complementary tool rather than a substitute for direct communication, Conversely, excessive reliance on social media may lead to negative effects such as social isolation and psychological loneliness, The results also indicated no statistically significant differences in the responses of the study sample attributable to gender (male/female).
